Inkungu Lodge

Lodge and luxury chalets in the Champagne Valley of the Drakensberg.

Description

Inkungu Lodge gets its name from the Zulu word 'IzinKungu', meaning 'mist', an apt name when one looks over the valley at the morning mist covering the dam. This harmony with nature has been carried through every aspect of the lodge - the sandstone walls, natural gardens and rim flow pools blend perfectly with majesty of the surrounding Drakensberg mountain range.

Inkungu Lodge has stunning upmarket finishes throughout. Each room has been uniquely furnished, and the Lodge showcases a fine collection of predominantly Victorian and Edwardian furniture. Many of the pieces on display can trace their history back to the Boere War. Guests have a choice of accommodation including a romantic honeymoon suite and an executive Presidential suite, decorated with furniture from the Napoleonic era. The lodge boasts a fully equipped kitchen with experienced staff and an executive chef to provide sumptuous breakfasts, lunches and dinners. A well-stocked bar opens onto the swimming pool area, and there's a wine cellar which includes a private collection for the discerning connoisseur.

The fireplaces and communal lounge area provide a welcome retreat from the winter cold. Reading areas and workstations are set aside throughout the lodge for your convenience, as well as 3 additional lounge areas which are ideal for a private escape. For the leisure-seekers, the Estate Lapa is equipped with indoor relaxation activities, a communal braai area and a natural rock swimming pool.

Inkungu Lodge is an excellent location for small to medium conferences and intimate weddings. There are various recreational activities available on site and in the surrounding area. The dam offers trout fishing facilities and has become home to an abundant birdlife and other small mammals. Hiking trails, horse rides and specifically placed picnic sites give adventurous visitors hours of natural exploring. Golf enthusiasts have an option of two courses on their doorstep.

Facilities

Conference

Inkungu Lodge is the ideal venue for conferences and group getaways. We can accommodate groups of up to 40 people in our fully equipped conference room within the Lodge. Our larger venue on-site (pictured above) is suitable for larger groups of up to 100, and like the Lodge, also has pub and braai facilities. Smaller break-away areas are also available within the lodge for more informal meetings.

Our event coordinator will work with your company to ensure all the requirements of your conference are met. Our chefs can prepare a delectable menu to suit your theme and budget, and larger gala evenings can be held in the lapa, which has a rim-flow rock pool and 2 wood-burning fireplaces to add a cosy atmosphere in winter.

On-site activities are easily arranged, and can include trout fishing, hiking, horseriding, quadbiking and more. There are also various off-site alternatives for team building activities to suit your needs, which our specialist conference coordinator would be happy to arrange for you.

There is accommodation available at the Lodge, however our event coordinator would be happy to assist in recommending additional venues for accommodation if needed.

Weddings

Inkungu Lodge is the perfect setting for the intimate wedding of your dreams. The sandstone Lodge blends in seamlessly with the surrounding mountains, offering a magnificent backdrop for your wedding ceremony and photographs.

Inkungu Lodge offers two venues for a Drakensberg wedding, depending on the size of your guest list. Small weddings of 10 - 30 people can be easily accommodated in the main lodge, and larger parties of 30 - 100 are referred to the purpose-built venue away from the Lodge. Both venues offer stunning rim-flow pools and fireplaces for a cosy atmosphere in winter.

As part of the package, our wedding coordinator would be happy to assist you by sourcing and negotiating with local vendors for all of your additional needs, such as florists, decor, music, photographers etc. The chefs at Inkungu offer you delectable menu options to suit every budget and complement the theme of your wedding. When deciding on a menu for your big day, our chefs will work with you to provide the unique menu you require.

Accomodation is available at Inkungu Lodge, and our wedding coordinator is happy to recommend additional accommodation in alternative venues in the surrounding areas if needed.

Why not add a special touch to your wedding by organising a private picnic for your guests near the dam? Ask our wedding coordinator about other options to add a unique flair to your event...
